My Doorbell Rings. I Answer the Door and, I Find This on My Front Porch…

 

I yell into the house. We got another one!...

 

"What! Three in a row",  my father yelled. "Goodness gracious, There might be a breakthrough in cloning technology", my sister claimed. 

 

    Too bad, we don't have any other genetic material. Since our ship with 40 thousand passengers went rogue, we were lucky enough to be safely landed on this weird planet. Looking back, Our ancestors surely didn't have a good time. The planet was not habitable. They had to rely on ship oxygen accumulators and generators while feeding the remaining food source which was estimated to be capped around 10 zipto calories. That is enough for about 10 centuries but  somehow they managed it to feed from it for more than 14 centuries. Thanks to recycling technologies.  The best brains of our civilizations had boarded the ship. They were not going to give up that easily. The search for the best alternative source for our food was on. Water was easy. The oxygen vault  was identified near captoviv Solar system.Hydrogen was not even a problem. However the carbon was limited. We could have just produced it through the fusion but machinery was limited and other tasks were more vital at the time. They used to say " common man, we got enough food for 10 centuries. We are going to be connected with our host planet anytime within 100 to 200 years and we are going to be evacuated". Little did they know we were beyond our host cluster. By some god like miracle Our ship broke one fundamental law we thought would always hold. We were faster than speed of light. But was that going to stop us? Yes, it nearly stopped us. We depleted our food. 

    I am indigogo, the 14th generation of human raised on this planet. Each generation has a code binded to them. We are indie generation so my name has to start with indi . The indi generation is supposed to be the solution for all the problems we have. My grandfather's generation was the worst among all the time we have faced in this planet. The population was at peak of 2 million members and food source was nearly depleted. Whatever remained was consumed voraciously. Everything nearly came to stop.

 First there was formation of tribes. The eskiko and blaspus tribes. Then there was genocide between them. Each of them trying to finish each other. The intellectuals were away from all those tribal nonsense and trying to find the solution. It was their dedication that led to finding that we could use our own DNA to create a food source. Their solution was extreme. Cannibalism was all that was left. A full grown human clone could be produced within a hour. They called it exponential proliferation. It was even faster than the bacterial binary fission.  But the problem was the energy source. The nuclear plant we were depending upon could only generate about 500 Tera Watts of electricity. We had about 1000 cloning machines. and it required nearly 80 % of the energy generated. A full grown human is about 125822 calories worth. So we could generate about 300 * 125,822 =  37,746,600‬ calories per hour.  so in theory we could produce enough food to feed around 400 thousand people in a day. Finally our race could survive and genocide came to stop. It had finished more than half of the population.  

    Each three days a body would be sent to every families that were alive. we had to depend on our own kind.. Each and every part to be harvested and to be fed. The worst part was sometimes the clone would resemble someone you already know. It was hard for our grandparents. They never had resorted to cannibalism before. But when i was born it was already normal. I grew up drinking the soup that i myself is made up of.  There are tales my father used share. Mostly it was about the earth and its ecosystem and the civilization full of natural humans without any tags attached to them. He said they require about 2500 calories of energy with essential chemicals such as retinyl acetate(Vitamin A), thiamin(Vitamin b) for functioning properly. Our situation is different and we don't require such alleviation. We are modified to function without ions such as iodine and Sodium. What we can't produce or substitute was carbon, so we had to resort to such extreme cannibalism. 

    Today is special day for us. Three bodies came in today which means the production capacity must have increased.  Moreover there is a chance that nuclear fusion was successful. A potassium broth doesn't sound that bad. and we could extract the fat from one of the body and bake a cake.  Whatever it is Its a chance to celebrate. Peace
